“hold the fort” って何？ イギリス英語のフレーズ

結論:  ビジネスの文脈では = cover (誰かが不在の際に代理で仕事をすること)

出張で不在の上司の代わりに取引先にメールを送ったところ Thanks Nate - Good to see someone holding the fort と返信が来た。取引先はオーストラリア人。なんとなく意味は想像できたので、あとは Google 先生に聞くだけ。メールに使われる表現は広げやすい。

まずは高級紙 The Economist からの使用例。意識としては someone had to take responsibility instead っぽい。

尤も、hold the fort は言いにくい。H と F の音が交互に来るフレーズなので、口に出して練習しないといけないのが玉に瑕。（語学に、近道はない）
